Narra Mine – Genaside II
Genaside II from Narra Mine is an absolute classic for a number of reasons. It opens with a looped sample from the late Guru of Gangstarr repeating, “Genocide makes me nervous. Genocide makes me nervous.” Two times through, then you get the opening riff which hits you like Elin Woods (Nordegren). Bam! The sultry vocal from Sharon Williams, the aggressive ragga rap, the build up to it, the fact that Wu-Tang had a remix on the flipside of the 96 pressing…so many things make this record a classic. You wiled OUT if this came on back in the day!
Genaside II from Narra Mine is today’s SOTD (and probably tomorrow’s) for my own enjoyment and love of the record. Push play and discover, or rediscover, one of the most intense 7 minutes you’ll ever hear. This is one of those songs that has you sitting there in a daze for a few seconds after ending. Trust me, you’ll snap out of it and say “wow” in roughly 3 seconds.
